Frequently asked questions.

  • Yes, when it comes to any kind of pain or ailment, I believe anything is possible!

  • Anyone of any age from in utero to the moments before death are welcome in my clinic. I have multiple treatment rooms to accommodate couples, care givers and those they care for, moms/dads and their cubs, siblings, and anyone who wants to bring their friend in with them to share a treatment.

  • If you have a body, acupuncture can help support you in your healing journey, and where needles are not called for, massage, moxibustion, cupping, reiki, aromatherapy, vibrational sound therapy, and many other types of treatment can be incorporated to your session for optimum healing. Oriental Medicine and acupuncture treat a wide variety of issues including pain, stress, anxiety, allergies, digestive issues, hormonal issues, fears and phobias.  During your initial consultation, I will provide you with a prognosis and treatment plan.

  • It shouldn’t hurt.

Acupuncture needles are thin and engineered so a very mild sensation is usually all that is felt, if any sensation at all. The needles are about the diameter of a hair. Most patients report feeling deeply relaxed and often have instant pain relief.

I specialize in painless and gentle needling as well as energy healing and massage therapy to be gentle.

There may be occasionally a momentary “zip” if there is a buildup of qi or a subcutaneous nerve, however that should quickly subside leaving the needle in the skin without any painful sensation. Some patients experience pressure, heat, a light pulse, a gentle wave or vibration moving along the channel, and sometimes a light throbbing when blood is moving.

If needles are not comfortable, we can do tuning forks, hands on healing, moxibustion, cupping, and many other treatments. No worry. Our meridian system can be addressed with massage, reiki, and much more; you need not fear.

  • This depends on many variables.  The longer you’ve had the issue, the longer it will take to treat.  Although many feel relief after just one session, multiple sessions are often needed for long-term effects.

  • Alone and together these modalities are effective in healing body, mind, and spirit. After decades of practice, I have learned when combined, their synergy can be magical.  I highly recommend combining them when you can do so.

  • Licensed acupuncturists go through extensive training that includes at least 800 hours of clinical training alone. They focus on treating the entire body including the root cause of the ailment. Acupuncturists treat a variety of ailments including hormonal imbalances, digestive issues, stress, pain and more.  Although physical therapists go through comprehensive education, they are only required to take 24 contact hours in dry needling technique and can only treat neuromuscular pain.  Dry needling does have its uses and many licensed acupuncturists use dry needling techniques in addition to more traditional needling techniques.

  • I do not currently accept insurance, although I am part of several state and national groups working toward making acupuncture more available for everyone. It’s my hope to be able to accept insurance sometime in 2022.

  • It is very safe, especially if you see a trained acupuncturist with at least a master’s level of training in acupuncture. Like any medical treatment, there can be some side effects on occasion. Normally, however, there are very few adverse reactions to acupuncture, but in some cases your condition may be temporarily exacerbated following your treatment. This is a sign of detoxification and is showing your body is purging toxins so from a healing perspective, this detox is a good and needed thing. Soaking your feet in Epsom salts and hot water and getting in plenty of fluids and nutrition will ease the process. Taking extra vitamin C will also help reduce inflammation while staying away from inflammatory foods.

  • Acupuncture triggers your nervous system and your energy fields, along with muscle tissues and internal organ energies. When an acupuncture needle is placed in a specific location on your body, the nerve in that area sends a signal to your brain. Your brain responds by increasing blood circulation, hormones, and immune cells to whatever part of the body that the needle has stimulated. In the belief of reiki and energy medicine, the energy is directed where you need it most.

How this works is when a needle that is placed in your shin for example, will trigger a nerve to send a signal to your brain and then your brain will react by sending blood and immune cells to the area that was needled as well as the stomach. Thus, enhancing the function of your stomach by improving blood flow and immunity in that organ. A needle placed in a specific place in your shoulder joint will enhance the function of your thyroid, and it will also improve the integrity of your shoulder joint. A needle placed in the forearm will have a direct effect on the forearm as well as the large intestine.

Once the imbalances in your body are detected through listening to your pulse and looking at your tongue then specific acupuncture points are chosen to address those imbalances. The other thing that acupuncture does for the joints, muscles, tendons, and ligaments is that is allows for greater blood circulation which will do four things:

Decrease pain and scar tissue build up.

    Increase range of motion.

Allows the soft tissue to heal.

Resets the spindle cells in muscles that regulate relaxation and contraction so that the muscle will send a new nerve signal to the brain that it is not damaged and can therefor relax.

Most foundationally and profoundly to your healing, the acupuncture I use can also work at realign your spine. This is done by locating proper points of spinal misalignment and needling into the specific acupuncture point that allows the spindle cell to relax and release the tension in the muscles along the spine then the bones will move into place on their own without force. When your spine is aligned, your body functions optimally as the nervous system is unhindered.
